ArcelorMittal: "The State must have control over decisions," says Marine Tondelier

ArcelorMittal's shareholder has confirmed the elimination of 295 jobs in Dunkirk (Nord). A new meeting took place on Tuesday, May 6, between the social partners and the Minister of Industry, who ruled out the possibility of nationalization. "Beyond the direct jobs that will be eliminated, one in five families in Dunkirk depends directly or indirectly on ArcelorMittal's activities ," said Marine Tondelier, national secretary of the Ecologists, a guest at the 4V on Wednesday, May 7.
In France, blast furnaces produce "70% of the steel used in Europe," explains the elected official, recalling that "between 2013 and 2023, €392 million in public subsidies" were paid to Arcelor. "When you invest money in this type of company, it must be capital investments, it must result in the state having control over the decisions," she concludes.
